Cherry blossoms
As far as I know, cherry blossoms are to Japan like clovers are to Ireland. Cherry blossoms fall off the branch in their prime, they don't wither and die and then fall like other plants. Because of this, cherry blossoms have become a symbol of the samurai, who does not or should not live a long life and then wither and die but instead fall in the prime of life.
