The Wakazashi is a short sword used in Japan as early as the 16th century. It is approximately 12-23 inches in length and worn blade edge up. The Wakazashi was worn by the Samurai, along with the Katana as part of a matching set called a Daisho. If the Katana was broken, the shorter Wakazashi could be used in its place. It was also considered bad etiquette to wear a long sword indoors, so by the use of a Wakazashi the Samurai would not be vulnerable indoors.

first off all of them are wonderful but the sword on your hip has a deeper meaning correct. I was reading the excerpts you had about the swords. the stomach piece is exquisite though. i bet your adrenaline was pumping at quite a high rate to tolerate that one. did you do straight through or did your tattoo artist take any kind of break in between?
thank you for sharing these pictures...tiffany
I was 24, about three months from being 25, and I must have been a madman because I sat for about five hours and got that whole stomach piece in one sitting.
The guy who did it, Ray (the only name I got from him), only did that one piece. Ray was fast and he had that fast look in his eyes, if you know what I mean. But who really knows. I only met him twice. He said I took a lot of breaks, but I'm pretty sure I was going into shock at some point(s). Only time I've ever or will ever sit for that long.
I just had the outline of my image of Buddha sitting on top of the circular stomach piece, and it took about one hour and I was suffering. Haha, I guess I'm getting old. I'm only 30.
